From $37K to $330K: The Power of Identifying Your Dream Photography Client

Why You Need to Know What Brand of Shampoo Your Dream Client Uses (and Everything Else About Them!)

Understanding your Dream Client is more than just knowing their budget or what style of photos they like. It’s about delving into the granular details. What brand of shampoo do they use? What shows do they binge-watch? Knowing these seemingly trivial facts can make a world of difference in your marketing strategy and client relationships.

If I ask who your Dream Client is, what would you say?

I’m not talking bare minimums here. Consider this your permission to go BIG. I’m
willing to bet your Dream Client:

Is obsessed with your style and would never ask you to change it.

  • Has an unlimited budget.
  • Trusts your vision completely.
  • Has a wardrobe that gives you heart eyes.
  • Lives right around the corner (bye, travel time!)
  • Has an incredible home just screaming to be in a shoot.
  • Will add major cred to your portfolio.
  • Happens to be besties with your dream brand collaborator.
  • Wants to work with YOU so much that they’ll bend over backwards to fit in with your schedule. Weekends? They’re for relaxing.

Of course we’d all like every client to be our Dream Client. But that’s just not realistic,
right?
…actually, I beg to differ. And I’m going to show you why.

If you haven’t got the framework to help you find them, then searching for your Dream Client can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack.

But what if you could not only identify who that Dream Client is, but also have them
knocking on your door?

Better yet, what if you could convert them into bookings effortlessly?

Yep. That’s what I’m here for.

So, Who Is Your Dream Client?

Understanding your Dream Client Profile (DCP) is EVERYTHING. Think of it as the Google Maps of your brand.
A DCP is a super detailed profile of your Dream Client, and knowing it inside and out will make every business decisions feel easier. It will strengthen your brand’s voice. And it will make curating your portfolio (sigh) a breeze. Seriously.

Here’s the part that trips up most amateur photographers I know:
It’s ESSENTIAL to know your DCP, even if you’re not making ends meet yet.

Understanding your Dream Client allows you to speak directly to them.

That means every piece of content you create will be tailor made for them, and trust
me when I say that makes conversions a hell of a lot easier.

A Practical Exercise: Date Your Clients
Imagine you’re going to create a dating profile for your Dream Client. What would that look like? Think about their values, their favourite TV shows, their cultural references.

This is more than just a fun exercise. This is going to help you get specific about who
you want to work with.

For example, if you’re a photographer who specialises in family portraits, think about what kind of families you enjoy working with the most. What kind of settings do you like to shoot in? Do you love shooting at the beach, and if so, do your marketing materials reflect that?

Visualising Your Dream Client
The best way to get inside your Dream Client’s head is to step inside their shoes.
Ask yourself questions like:

  • What keeps you up at night?
  • What are you afraid of?

What stresses you out on a regular basis?

Answering these questions will help you understand your Dream Client’s pain
points, so you can tell them how you’ll solve them.
